Reimagining the best 2D games

in the legacy of the best 3D games.

Project Dream brought us what to me is the most original game for N64, a standalone adventure called Banjo-Kazooie. I’ve dreamt of a game that is new to the 3D platformer genre that bridges the span between other beloved games and this beloved format.

The formula is to take each world and format it into a stage with challenges that pay homage to each level within that world. There would be In BK, the items are collected throughout the stage. They unify (collect all 100 notes per stage) and challenge (10 harder to reach jiggys per stage). These would be tailored to the style of the 2D game for a fully submersive experience. For example, Donkey Kong would collect bananas, letters, etc.

The challenges would vary in terms of layout, goal, and mission. The style would be constant, allowing adaptations from other games if they fit with the level being developed. It would make the game totally fresh while building on past successes. Reimagined classics in a proven format. No more gimmicks or grasping, this would allow developers to concentrate on experience over story, originality within proven parameters, creativity in a familiar style while stretching the game to new dimensions.

In summary, BK lovers get a new setting for their favorite gaming dynamics, while classic gamers get to experience their best 2D games reimagined. It’s a blending that is new in one respect yet familiar enough to be inviting.

Project Dreamagine is an awakening, a quest, and a world of possibility.
